M1/M2 Volunteer Information

Volunteer Sign-Up: Login to GiveGab to sign up for a clinic day! Click here to sign up today! (You must be signed into GiveGab for the link to work).

  • We currently have 12 slots for M1/M2 students.

  • Sign-ups are usually posted the Tuesday before the Saturday of the clinic day.

As a first or second year student, you will be under the instruction of an upper level (M3/M4) medical student during your day at the clinic. Don't worry though, you will still have the chance to be involved in hands on care of each patient you encounter.

If this is your first time volunteering at the clinic, check out our video below! It will help you know what to expect on a normal clinic day. Some things that M1/M2 students commonly get to practice at the clinic include:

  • Collecting vitals (i.e. blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, etc)

  • Measuring blood glucose levels using a glucometer

  • Collecting blood from patients for laboratory testing

  • Performing a comprehensive physical exam

  • Writing patient notes

  • Learning how to make treatment plans for patients

  • Presenting patient encounters to physicians

  • Many other miscellaneous things!

If you're unsure about doing any of the things listed above, don't be nervous! Your upper level medical student will be guiding you each step of the way. You are encouraged to practice as many skills as you feel comfortable with doing. You are not required to do any of these things either, but it is recommended that you give it your best shot, as this will help you prepare for your future as a medical student and physician!
