The clinic is located on Martin Luther King Avenue one block from the Fortification St/Bailey Avenue intersection, beside the Humble Church of God in Christ. For more information, please see directions.
Who runs the clinic?
The JFC is run by students from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine under the supervision of physicians from the Jackson community. We are currently developing interprofessional collaborations with the School of Pharmacy, School of Health Related Professions, School of Dentistry, and School of Nursing.

Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are recommended. Please call (601)355-5161 to schedule an appointment. If you leave a message, please include your name, phone number, and request. Our staff are only available to take and return calls during operating hours.
If I do not have an appointment, can I wait to be seen?
Yes, a limited number of patients can wait to be seen without an appointment if patients with appointments do not show. The clinic is often full so we strongly recommend you call ahead to make an appointment ((601)355-5161). Only patients with appointments are guaranteed service.
Are children treated at the JFC?
Children under the age of 18 are not treated at the clinic. All children are eligible for free health care in the state of Mississippi .
What services does the clinic provide?
Primary care including:
- Complete medical history & physical examination
- Appropriate laboratory monitoring
- Health education and management
- Emergency referral if indicated
- Specialist referral if possible
- Referral to community support services
Are all of the services at the clinic free?
Yes! All of our services are free.
Who is eligible to be seen at the clinic?
The Jackson Free Clinic is dedicated to treating those who have no insurance and cannot otherwise afford medical care. In order to be seen at the clinic, you must:
- Be between 18-65 years
- Not currently have health insurance
What if I need prescription medications?
If our physicians think you need prescription medications, we will write you a prescription. While you will have to pay for your medicine at the pharmacy, we will do our best to help you access the most affordable medicine possible.
How long will my visit take?
Most visits average 1-2 hours. However, this depends on the kind of medical issues you have and the number of patients being seen that day. If you are a new patient, appointments may take longer in order to complete a comprehensive medical history and physical. We want to make educated and informed decisions about your treatment plan.
Should I bring anything to my visit?
If this is your first visit, please bring all the following:
- Medications you are taking including prescription medications as well as any herbal remedies, vitamins, or supplements.
- If you were referred to us from the Emergency Room, please bring your discharge instructions.
- A book or magazine to read in case of a long wait time.
